W.F. Moran
“American Hunting Knife" Sheffield Bowie
Originally, the Woodhead and Hartley bowie, had that stamp on the blade along with Maker’s stamp on the ricasso. Maybe that was the reason that Bill Moran made this unusual for him copy (The Antique Bowie Knives –page 245). Jay Hendrickson told me, when I showed him the bowie, that this is the only one like it, as far as he knows. He also saw the picture of Bill Moran holding this knife, on the wall of his shop in Fredrick (front page of magazine). Knife does not have sheath (no sheath with original either). Nickel silver guard, pommel castings are German silver.
Overall length: 12-3/4", Blade length: 8-1/8". Mark: By W.F. Moran Lime Kiln MD
